Born and brought up in Mumbai (India), Girish Karkera started his career as a sports journalist with the Indian Express, one of India's leading national dailies. After a two year stint there, he got an opportunity to pursue his love for automobiles by joining the desk of Autocar, which was setting up shop in India back in 1999. He joined BBC TopGear India in 2006 as Assistant Editor and went on to be appointed as Editor in 2009. He is attributed to being instrumental in turnaround of the quintessential British title and making it relevant to an audience that's very different from the parent country. He is also part of the Indian Car of the Year jury.
