Henry Payne is an award-winning auto columnist for The Detroit News, and host of the Auto Report on 910AM-WFDF Detroit.
Payne’s coverage for The News includes vehicle reviews, motorsports, product trends, and breaking news. He’s won multiple awards for his car columns including the SPJ Excellence in Journalism prize. Payne races a Lola in the North American Sports 2000 series. His semi-weekly report for 910 AM features interviews with industry newsmakers including race drivers, executives, and engineers. Car Radio is also available via podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, and Detroit News.
In addition to his auto coverage, Payne is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated cartoonist with Andrews McMeel Syndicate; guest writer for National Review andTownhall.com; and has illustrated two children’s books by Random House. A Princeton University graduate, he began his journalism career with the Charleston (WV) Daily Mail, worked for Scripps Howard Washington, DC bureau, and has been with The News since 2000. A family man with two sons, he lives with his wife in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
